Fact Check: A child pretending to breastfeed her little brother in the aftermath of Turkey earthquake

Claim: After losing their mother in the Turkey earthquake, a little girl pretended to breastfeed her crying brother to comfort him.

The claim that both of these children lost their mothers in the recent earthquake in Turkey in February 2023 is being made in a video that has been shared online. The video shows a young girl crying while she appears to console a baby. According to the post, the young girl is pretending to breastfeed her brother in order to stop him crying. Through this article, let's check this claim for accuracy.

We discovered a few additional Facebook posts with the same video and similar claims after performing a reverse image search of the Keyframes in the video. A video with the watermark “anelya.495" of a TikTok user was included in one of those posts.

After that, we looked for anelya.495 on TikTok and found the account. This account uploaded the identical video to TikTok on November 26, 2022, the same day the viral post went viral.

The Russian title of the video reads, "#children laughing." Other videos that were uploaded on the same account also feature the older child in the video. This November 2022 video is clearly misquoted in the viral post as images taken after the February 2023 earthquake that devastated Turkey and Syria.

In conclusion, a fictitious, unrelated video depicts a child attempting to breastfeed her brother after their mother was killed in the Turkey earthquake in February 2023.

Conclusion: On November 26, 2022, the user name "anelya.495" uploaded this video to TikTok. This was a long time before the Turkey earthquake of February 6, 2023. Therefore, the assertion made in the post is WRONG.
