Snowfall in Makkah’s Grand Mosque is Fake



A video doing the rounds online shows devotees at the Grand Mosque Saudi Arabia's Makkah rejoicing after experiencing snowfall.

The video was shared by a lot of people on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram with a lot of different captions saying that Masjid al-Haram in Makkah got snow for the first time in history.

Netizens were naturally drawn to the video as it showcased a very unusual and rare sight. But soon, the expressions of awe turned into comments of doubt.

Many users questioned the authenticity of the video on Twitter and platforms.

No one needs to research anymore because the truth of the clip has finally been revealed by the National Meteorological Center (NMC).  No points for guessing, the video is fake.

Numerous social media users have shared the video with similar captions. A quick search for "snowfall in Mashad" on YouTube reveals a plethora of videos with comparable background information.

Frosty weather and snowfall are not entirely unusual in Saudi Arabia. In fact, they are a common occurrence in the mountains during the winter months.

Some parts central and northern Saudi Arabia go through harsh, cold winters. As reports of snowfall in these areas go unreported, most of the people living abroad never come to know about it

Last year, social media users from Saudi shared clips and photos of a rare snowfall in the Tabuk region.

According to the meteorological department, snow had covered areas of altitueds as low as 400 metres in the region.

Tourists had also visited the peak of Jabal Al Lawz which, which had been completely covered in snow.
