Rishabh Pant thanks 'two heroes' who helped him after car accident

Rishabh Pant, a star India wicketkeeper and batsman, expressed his gratitude to Rajat Kumar and Nishu Kumar on Monday, describing them as "two heroes" for helping him get to the hospital safely after a car accident.

Rishabh shared a picture of these two people standing with his mother on Twitter.

Although I was unable to personally thank everyone, I must acknowledge these two heroes who assisted me during my accident and ensured my safe arrival at the hospital. Thank you, Rajat Kumar and Nishu Kumar. Pant tweeted, "I'll be forever grateful and indebted."

Pant thanked all of his supporters and well-wishers earlier today for their support as he continues to receive treatment after a car accident last year.

Pant stated that his surgery was successful and that he has begun his "road to recovery." He also expressed gratitude to the government authorities and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for their "incredible support."

I am humbled and indebted to everyone for their support and well wishes. I am pleased to inform you that my surgery went well. I'm prepared for the challenges that lie ahead because the road to recovery has begun. Pant tweeted, "Thank you to the @BCCI, @JayShah, and government officials for their incredible support."

"I also want to thank all of my fans, teammates, doctors, and physiotherapists for your kind words and encouragement. I can't wait to see you all out on the field. thankful #blessed,” Pant added in a subsequent tweet.

Notably, Pant is likely to miss a number of major competitions, including the Indian Premier League, and is not expected to play cricket for the majority of 2023.

A medical update that was provided to the BCCI regarding Pant reveals that he tore all three of his crucial knee ligaments and was able to survive the horrific accident on December 30. According to ESPNcricinfo, surgery on the third is scheduled for six weeks from now. Two of them have already undergone reconstruction.

As a consequence of this, Pant will probably not play for at least six months, which could hurt his chances of being selected for the ODI World Cup, which will be held in India in October and November.

Pant had successfully undergone knee surgery in January. Pant, one of India's most highly contracted players, was flown by air from Dehradun to Mumbai earlier in January at the direction of the BCCI and placed under the care of Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala, a specialized surgeon hired by the board.

The BCCI has issued three medical bulletins since the accident and surgery, one of which revealed that Pant had also injured his right ankle. ESPNcricinfo reports that his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), posterior cruciate ligament (PCL), and medial collateral ligament (MCL), all of which are essential for movement and stability, were damaged.

During the most recent surgery, it is believed that both the PCL and MCL were rebuilt. To rebuild his ACL, Pant will need additional surgery, but the procedure won't be done for at least six weeks.

The doctors have not yet specified a specific time frame for Pant's return to training, but the BCCI and selectors have determined that Pant will be out of action for at least six months.

After making his first appearance in the away series in Bangladesh in December, Pant was rested for the home series against Sri Lanka. He was not selected to play in either the New Zealand series or the Border-Gavaskar Trophy's first two Test matches against Australia.

Additionally, Pant, who is in charge of Delhi Capitals, will not be available for the Indian Premier League, which begins on April 1. Pant would also be unable to attend the June World Test Championship final if India were to advance.

The selectors have chosen KS Bharat and Ishan Kishan to fill in for Pant during the first half of the Australia Test series.

In addition, Bharat and Kishan will compete for the wicketkeeper's position in the three-match ODI series against New Zealand that begins next week.
