A police official said on Saturday that a motorcyclist who had given a lift to a 90-year-old woman in the Shahdol district of Madhya Pradesh raped her.
According to Superintendent of Police Kumar Pratik, she had arrived at Shahdol railway station on Thursday night from Jabalpur to visit her relative in a village 15 kilometers from the district headquarters.
She spent the night at the railway station, and on Friday morning, she was taken to the main road in Antra village by an autorickshaw driver. He stated, "He asked her to take another vehicle to get to the residence of her relative, which was some distance from the main road."
"An unidentified motorcyclist offered her a ride to the village while she was waiting for a bus, but he took a detour and raped her in a remote location. The SP added, "He left her back on the main road and then fled."
According to Kumar Pratik, the unidentified motorcyclist was charged with rape and other offenses under the provisions of the Indian Penal Code after she informed her relatives, who then approached the police.
The SP added that while efforts were being made to arrest the accused, the woman was admitted to the hospital.
