India host Volleyball Club World Championships for the first time

The Men's Club World Championships, an international volleyball competition for senior men's international teams, will be held in India for two years in partnership with the Prime Volleyball League, according to Volleyball World and the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB).

Since its inception approximately two decades ago, the Volleyball Club World Championships has featured men's professional clubs from all over the world competing for a share of approximately $350,000 in prize money and the title of World Champion. Volleyball World is a joint venture of the FIVB and CVC Capital Partners that promotes volleyball's expansion, innovation, and investment. The competition will take place from December 6 to 10, 2023. This year, the host city will be announced.

India will host the Prime Volleyball League winners in 2023 and 2024, where they will compete against well-established clubs from leading volleyball nations like Italy, Brazil, Iran, and others. RuPay is the league's sponsor, and gaming company A23 is the league's "powered-by" sponsor.

Baseline Ventures, a sports marketing firm and the Prime Volleyball League's founding partner, will promote the Club World Championships here. The company said that 133 million Indians watched the Prime Volleyball League's first season on television and 84 million watched it online in 2022.

We are thrilled that the Club World Champs will be held in the subcontinent for the first time. "We are delighted to give fans in India and around the world, via Volleyball World TV, the opportunity to watch the best clubs and athletes compete at the highest level," stated Finn Taylor, CEO of Volleyball World. "This tournament is known for its exciting and competitive matches."

Baseline Ventures managing director and co-founder Tuhin Mishra stated: This is in line with our mission to assist the Indian volleyball team in qualifying for the Olympics in 2028. A global competition that will be held in India for consecutive years will provide our players with the ideal platform and exposure."

The Prime Volleyball League's Chairman, Kochi Blue Spikers owner Thomas Muthoot, stated: This is fantastic news for our league because it will motivate each team to give their all to compete for championships. Additionally, Indian volleyball fans will be able to witness the best volleyball action on Indian soil, which will undoubtedly add to the excitement of this global event."

Beginning on Saturday, the league will be streamed live on Volleyball World TV outside of the Indian subcontinent. The final schedule for the championships and the qualified teams will be announced later this year.
