Apple Introduces New HomePod with Better Audio Support

A brand-new smart speaker called the HomePod, which retails for $299, has improved sound quality, intelligence, and smart features. The all-new HomePod replaces the original, which was introduced in 2018. HomePod pre-orders have already begun, and the device will be available in stores and shipped worldwide.

The second-generation wireless speaker from Apple, the HomePod, is a lot like the first one in many ways, but one of its best features is that it supports spatial audio with Apple Music. The original Apple HomePod was one of the best wireless speakers available, but Apple decided to focus on the smaller and less expensive Apple HomePod Mini instead in March 2021.

Apple's new HomePod comes in two colors: white and black, which the company calls "Midnight." It supports Siri voice control and Apple's own Spatial Audio technology for an immersive sound experience and is wrapped in a 100% recycled mesh fabric.

An S7 chip, which also powers the Apple Watch Series 7, powers the HomePod. The HomePod's current generation, which was powered by an A8 chip that also powered the iPhone 6 and iPad mini 4, should see a significant upgrade from the S7 chip.

The new HomePod has room-sensing technology that allows it to change the sound profile based on where it is in the room. Additionally, it has enhanced audio return channel, or eARC, which makes it possible to seamlessly integrate audio with Apple TV.

HomePod (2023): Specs and Features

There are five tweeters and a 4-inch woofer in the second-generation HomePod, down from seven in the first. It now has four microphones instead of seven. Apple claims, however, that this will not affect the sound quality.

The ability to detect the HomePod's position in a room is another new smart feature. The speaker is able to change the sound profile based on whether it is on a table or up against a wall, for example.

In addition, the brand-new HomePod features temperature and humidity sensors that can be used as triggers for smart home automation. Additionally, Siri is able to recognize six distinct voices and offer individualized responses.

A software update coming later this spring, according to Apple, will enable the new HomePod to use its built-in microphones to listen for smoke or carbon monoxide alarms and notify users by sending notifications to their iPhone, iPad, or Mac.

The second-generation HomePod is now available for purchase and will initially be available in Canada, Australia, China, Germany, France, Japan, the United Kingdom, and 11 other nations and regions. Beginning on February 3, 2023, deliveries will begin.
