Japanese company grows heaviest radish over 45 kg, sets world record

A Japanese fertiliser and agriculture products manufacturer has grown the world’s largest radish, one that weighs 45.865 kg. Its circumference is 113 cm while its root is 80 cm long.

Manda Fermentation Co set the Guinness World Records for growing the world’s heaviest radish on February 22. The world record was verified at the HAKKO Park in Onomichi, a city in Hiroshima prefecture.

As per the Guinness World Records, the company routinely grows giant radishes using its special agriculture supplements and fertilisers. This record-breaking radish was grown in six months, as opposed to the regular time frame of three months.

On March 10, the Guinness World Records shared a video on Instagram that showed four people pulling the root vegetable and weighing it. This video has gathered 35,000 likes since then.

“All I can think about is how delicious that would be as kimchi ” a Twitter user commented, referring to a dish made from fermented vegetables. Another user wrote, “Good radish. One of the issues with this record is that it shouldn’t be weighed with foliage on. Would be worth getting some consistency across the globe on this ”.

People also joked that this one radish would be enough to make salad for the whole month.
