The New Zealand all-rounder Kyle Jamieson has been included in the 14-member Test squad that will play England in a two-match series. This means that he will soon make his international debut. Jamieson was forced off the field with a back injury during his last international game against England in the Nottingham Test. Jamieson played T20 and List A cricket for Auckland recently after being out of action for more than seven months.
Legspinner Ish Sodhi, who took the most wickets in the Test series against Pakistan, was also kept by the New Zealand selection committee. In place of Ajaz Patel, the team's second spinner is offspinning all-rounder Michael Bracewell. The pace options for New Zealand include Skipper Tim Southee, Matt Henry, Neil Wagner, Blair Tickner, and Jamieson.
Head coach Gary Stead commented on Jamieson's return to the team, saying: Kyle is an extremely determined individual who has a strong desire to represent New Zealand in international cricket. He has made it abundantly clear that he wants to heal his body before returning to the field in Nottingham. "He will get the opportunity to play some long form cricket as part of the New Zealand XI Squad to face England in their warm-up match next week at Seddon Park," stated Stead. "He's reported good progress since his return to professional cricket with Auckland."
Stead added, "On the inclusion of Sodhi." We were very impressed by Ish's approach with the bat and the ball. It was wonderful to see that on the international Test stage because he has worked very hard on both in recent years."
It is anticipated that wicketkeeper Tom Blundell and pacer Henry, who sustained injuries prior to the conclusion of the Pakistan tour, will be fit for the Test matches against England. In the meantime, Luke Ronchi, the regular batting coach, will be absent due to the India tour, so Auckland Aces head coach Doug Watson will serve as the batting coach for the team.
