6-Year-Old US Girl Shoots Grandmother In Moving Car

A six-year-old girl shot her grandmother from the backseat of a moving car in Florida, US, on February 16, as per a report in Fox News.

As per a public statement by the North Port Police Division, the young lady tracked down her kid grandma's weapon in the secondary lounge of the vehicle. She then, at that point, shot her in the lower back around 3 pm. "A 57-year-elderly person revealed that her 6-year-old granddaughter got tightly to a gun in the secondary lounge of the vehicle and coincidentally discharged a solitary shot through the driver seat, striking her in the lower back," they added.

The police division referenced that the weapon was initially situated in a holster, "wrapped up the back pocket of the driver seat, underneath a seat cover".

However, the woman was able to drive home and dialed 911, the United States' emergency number. After that, she was flown to a hospital via air with "non-threatening injuries."

The North Port Police Department added, "The girl was also questioned, and an investigation was launched into the matter." The Child Protection Centre in North Port conducted an interview with the child. In the press release, they added, "All other parties involved were also questioned."

"This is an unfortunate example of the importance of gun safety," said police chief Todd Garrison in a statement. Mr. Garrison stated that the incident "could have been much worse, not just for the grandma but for the child," despite the fact that "it appears that everyone is going to be okay."
"Please take appropriate measures to ensure that children cannot access firearms," he said at the end.

After speaking with the six-year-old and the other people involved, the police determined that the shooting was "accidental."
