Viral Image Showing PM Modi with Amit Shah in 1993 Is Misleading

On social media, a picture of Prime Minister Narendra Modi allegedly standing with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in 1993 is making the rounds.

A text is shared with the image: Unique picture taken in 1993 of PM Modi and Amit Shah.

Here’s the link to the above post.

When we ran the image through Google Reverse Image Search in May 2022, very few media articles mentioned that it was taken in Germany in 1993.

According to a May 4, 2022 NDTV report, It depicts a young PM Modi and one of his coworkers standing in front of the statue of Charlemagne, the medieval emperor who established the Holy Roman Empire in Western Europe.

Hindustan Times and ANI both published reports that were comparable. The picture was taken in Frankfurt in 1993, when he was returning from the US to India, according to reports.

On searching further, we found a tweet where the man was identified as Dr Sanjivbhai Oza from Rajkot.

Sanjiv Oza is a member of the RSS and Vice Chancellor of Gujarat Ayurved University, according to his Facebook profile. Furthermore, a portion of his new pictures with old ones demonstrate that he is a similar individual as found in the viral picture.

Hence, it is clear that the viral image showing PM Modi with Amit Shah is misleading.
